3. Types of TAR Book

3.1 TAR Book for Watchkeeping
- Deck Rating:
Issued to GP Rating trainees from DG Shipping-approved institutes. Records tasks like mooring operations, steering, navigation watch, and emergency duties. - Engine Rating:
Designed for GP Rating trainees choosing the engine department. Includes activities like assisting in engine maintenance, grinding, buffing, and supporting engineers.
3.2 TAR Book for Certificate of Proficiency (COP)
- Deck Rating:
For those who have obtained a Watchkeeping Certificate from MMD. Records tasks such as navigation duties, deck maintenance, and mooring operations. - Engine Rating:
For engine trainees with MMD certification. Records tasks like filter cleaning, inspection assistance, watchkeeping in the engine room, and equipment maintenance.
3.3 TAR Book for Officers
- Deck Officer:
For DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) or B.Sc. Nautical Science graduates. DNS cadets receive three TAR Books, while B.Sc. graduates receive one. Activities include navigation, emergency communication, watchkeeping, and maintenance of life-saving appliances. - Engine Officer:
For B.Tech Marine Engineering or GME graduates. Covers tracing pipelines, overhauling machinery, watchkeeping, and cargo equipment handling. - Electro-Technical Officer (ETO):
For candidates trained in ETO from DG Shipping-approved institutes. Records tasks like motor insulation testing, fitting starters, light fittings, and electrical maintenance.
4. How to Apply for TAR Book
The application process varies depending on the type of TAR Book needed.
4.1 For Deck & Engine Ratings (Watchkeeping)
- Upload photo and signature on the DG Shipping official website.
- Apply and download the TAR Book online.
4.2 For Deck & Engine Ratings (COP)
Documents Required:
- 2 passport-size photos
- Photocopy of CDC (self-attested)
- Watchkeeping Certificate (if applicable)
- Degree/Convocation certificate
- Pre-sea training certificate
- INDoS number
Application Process:
- Apply at the Board of Examinations of Seafarers Trust (BES) office.
- Submit required documents.
- Pay applicable fees:
- Deck side: ₹400/book
- Engine side: ₹250/book
- ETO Rating: ₹250/book
- Courier charges: ₹80

4.3 For Deck Officers

- Company name & RPSL No.
- Copy of GME/ B.Tech/ ETO Certificate
Candidates who want to collect TARBook may fill the registration form on Institute of Marine Engineers (India) IMEI and do the payment.
FGV TARBook: Rs. 600/- (+Rs. 100/- Postage)
ETO TARBook: Rs. 300/- (+Rs. 100/- Postage)
