About NUSI Maritime Academy
NUSI Maritime Academy (NMA), established in 1993 by the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) under the ITF/NUSI Welfare Trust, is India’s pioneering maritime training institute set up by a trade union. Conceived to address the shortage of trained seafarers, the Academy imparts technical skills, knowledge, and professional attitude for a successful Merchant Navy career while enhancing competencies of existing seafarers. Located in Sucaldem, Chinchinim, Goa, on a 35-acre campus amid lush coconut and cashew plantations near the Sal River, NMA offers state-of-the-art facilities and practical training. Guided by visionary leaders like Late Dr. Leo Barnes and managed under a Captain Superintendent, the Academy emphasizes mutual learning, discipline, and staying abreast of technological advancements in the maritime industry.
🎓 Pre-Sea Training
Training for General Purpose Ratings – G.P. RATING
Eligibility: 10th pass, medically fit, STCW trained, joining as General Purpose Rating, covers ship duties, certificate issued.
Certificate Course In Maritime Catering – CCMC
Eligibility: 10th pass, age 17.5–25, medically fit, pursuing maritime catering career, DG Shipping-approved certificate awarded.
🛢️ Familiarization
Basic Safety Training – BST
Eligibility: 10th pass, age 18–30, medically fit, complete STCW PST, FPFF, EFA, PSSR, full attendance.
Security Trng. for Seafarer with Designated Security Duties – STSDSD
Eligibility: Completed STCW safety training, assigned designated security duties, covers ship security, threat assessment, certificate issued mandatory.
Crowd Management, Passenger Safety and Safety Training
Eligibility: Completed STCW safety training, assigned passenger ship duties, covers crowd control, evacuation, certificate issued mandatory.
🔄 Refresher Courses
Refresher Training for Proficiency in FPFF – RFPFF
Eligibility: Previously FPFF certified seafarers; refresher ensures updated fire prevention, firefighting skills, safety compliance, mandatory renewal.
Refresher Training for Proficiency in PST – RPST
Eligibility: Previously PST certified seafarers; refresher updates survival skills, life-saving appliances use, drills, safety compliance, mandatory renewal.
Refresher Training for Advanced Training in Fire Fighting – RAFF
Eligibility: Previously ATFF certified seafarers; refresher updates fire prevention, firefighting, teamwork, emergencies; renewal mandatory under STCW.
